Houstons DoubleTrouble Cafe and Bar
DoubleTrouble In Houston
God has a brown voice, as soft and full as beer. – Anne Sexton
Perfect way to start out a new year! Right? with a lovely positive review, and with just a few hints of bearable negatives. So i decided to go to DoubleTrouble, located downtown in the small island around The Mink, The Continental Club, and Breakfast Klub. It's a newly opened bar with some old staff from the PoisonGirl bar in Montrose. This is a cafe and a bar so to me it's perfect because i'm a bit of a coffee nut. I've had the Chai Tea Latte and it was amazing, I think I even got it soy. They don't have too many flavored lattes, but I thought they were damn good. And for those of you who like to mix, I hear they have a pretty strong Irish Coffee. Too strong for me. This place has gained a lot of attention and popularity in the small time its been open but I must say it's well deserved admiration. The place tends to get packed quick, and it can become a small hassle to wait to get your drinks, but I found the service and staff to be friendly and being as quick as they can! One problem I found with this place is that there are only two areas inside that are comfortable for big groups, a tall table where you can easily drag chairs to, and the ultimate seat you want. The couch. I ended up with the tall table, but it was fine I still very much enjoyed myself. If you want to sit outside there is a huge patio with plenty of space! Just don't leave your table. Ever. The drinks they have are pretty good as well, of the beers I had a Breckenridge Vanilla Porter which i loved! And i'm very picky when it comes to beer. It has a smooth coffee like taste to me, that hint of vanilla, and it doesn't have that strong punch of beer taste. I also had a Real Ale Coffee Porter which was just as smooth and just as good. I'm taking a liking to all the Porters they have to offer. I ended up with a whiskey sour, and it was delicious! A very good strong drink but with no strong whiskey taste, just how i like it. Same goes for their sprite and rum, delicious and not too strong of a taste. I think my favorite thing about this place is the coffee shop feeling they have, nothing too flashy, good people customers and staff alike, and they had some good music playing too. I got Elvis- HoundDog played for me, i was a very happy customer! I wouldn't say this place is too pricey, but depending on what you get come with about 35-50$ to spare for a good night. I very much recommend this place for anyone to try out!
